The idea for DocAfrika was born in 2003, when Jan-Kristof Kosmack had visited
Kenya for the first time to help the local people as a doctor.
During the same time Henning, his brother, was working for Siemens,
looking for innovations globally and driving the firmÕs investments into new
technology fields.
At Christmas in 2003, they thought that somehow this must be combined in some way.
Investments are not only needed in fast paced industries, but also in people. The
difference, however, is the fact that when investing in people, little can achieve a lot.
As it was Christmas and the whole family had gathered, Arnd, the third brother, was present
as well. Being an artist and working in the fields of theater and film, he suggested he could
use both media and his works to support the project.
At DocAfrika we feel responsible to help and think that many people can do likewise and also
want to contribute. If you are reading this right now, then the likelihood is very high
that you are blessed in life. Even though you might not agree at first, but the mere fact that
you have an Internet connection and some time to look around, puts you among the top 10% of
the population of this world.
There are several charity organization and foundations around the world, so why
should you support DocAfrika? We are of the opinion that people should indeed look
around and find projects and teams that they feel they can relate to. Some
organizations focus on a very specific area, e.g. ensuring the survival of the Panda
bear, while others would help all endangered species. DocAfrika is somewhere in the
middle, but then again even further out.
